When and why did you start your business?
Let’s just say I dream BIG. I have worked at the same company for 14 years and knew it was not what I was passionate about. I loved the idea of owning my own business and making a name for myself. When my husband told me I would be great at project management I decided to put my project management skills into a world that I understood and loved; events. In 2009 I started Sarah Viera Event Planning & Design and once I put the vision in motion of what I wanted to do and become, I knew instantly that this was my future.
How did you learn your craft?
I took a certification course through Sheffield School based out of NYC. It taught me the basic fundamentals to wedding and event planning. While fundamentals are important, I learn best through hands on experience. For an entire summer I volunteered at The Historic Pinecrest venue and coordinated their ceremonies. Once I started booking my own brides I continued my education through more hands on experience. Always making sure I was going above and beyond and knew everything I needed to know about the venue, the bride’s vision and then afterwards reflect on what I could have done differently. I learn something new at every event and with that new knowledge make change if necessary or reflect on the positive.
What inspires you?
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” -Corinthians 13
A motto you live by?
“Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadows.”
What are the hottest trends in weddings?
There are so many trends that are popular one minute and out the next. I feel the biggest trend is Vintage Antique and rustic. But for me the hottest trend is when a bride tells me her vision and details for the wedding. When she explains the small details that will represent her and her fiancé, those are the popular trends at the moment. If something is out of style or date, I try and recreate it to represent her vision and present day.
Any advice to the bride and groom?
“Leave the details to the detailed” Allow a professional to handle the details of your day so that you and your family and friends can truly enjoy the day to the fullest.
Have you always lived in Colorado? Where else?
I grew up in Northern California and lived there till I was 18. On my 18th birthday, I moved to Colorado Springs to live and train at the Olympic Training Center. I would love to live in a big city like NYC, but my daughter says we can never move from our house! She just loves it too much and with that I love it too! We plan on staying in Colorado but traveling the world as much as possible.
What is your favorite Colorado Pastime?
My favorite Colorado pastimes are seeing the leaves changing color and watching the silhouette of the Rockies as the sun sets behind them.
