Notes from the bride: From the beginning, I had a clear vision of the wedding I wanted to create. As a graphic designer and life-long crafter, I knew that I wanted a “handmade wedding.” Where my skills ended, my mom picked up with her sewing skills and was a huge help in creating all of the DIY sewing projects. I also knew that I didn’t want to be in debt after our wedding, so I made sure to make practical choices along the way. I spent the months leading up to the wedding visiting Denver thrift shops and yard sales collecting vintage glass jars, frames, table clothes, plates and silverware. As it turns out, thrifting items was cheaper than renting. We choose Snow Mountain Ranch to host our wedding weekend because it offered an economical solution and met all of our requirements: a beautiful outdoor wedding site with views of the mountains, a reception tent and plenty of lodging for all of our family and friends. Our wedding day was lovely from start to finish — and it had everything to do with the host of family and friends there to help us pull everything together.
Through the magic of the internet, I became connected with April Powell. (You may have seen her elopement video circling the internet.) It was April’s own wedding that led her to mine, and her talents and wedding experience helped make my own wedding everything I wanted it to be. In addition to creating all of the beautiful florals for the wedding, she was my day-of coordinator, ensuring everything went smoothly, and she was available for guidance throughout my entire planning process. Her husband was actually the one who created our sweet wedding video, and carved our initials onto a tree at our ceremony site.
We couldn’t have asked for a better set of of professionals to be a part of our wedding day. For our budgets and for our taste buds, we choose to hire a pizza truck to cater for our wedding. The folks at Basic Kneads Pizza even surprised us with a dessert pizza. Our guests are still raving about the pizza at our wedding! Our one “splurge” was our photographer, and even they were reasonably priced. It was really important to me to choose someone who understood the essence of our wedding. The photographers at From the Hip were awed by all of the DIY craftiness I’d put together. From the Hip did a fantastic job documenting all of the large and small details of this special day for us. Every time I look at our photos, I’m reminded of our beautiful, joyous wedding day.
