Describe your business and the service you provide: We are a husband-wife photography team who loves to capture the real, soulful moments of a wedding day. We approach each wedding with warmth, openness and professionalism. It's very important to us that we connect with our clients; we want to learn who they are as individuals and a couple, and tell their story in an authentic way. We absolutely love our profession! When and why did you start your business? We first met at a photography gallery in Denver, and we were already photographing weddings individually when we decided to photograph one together. We were blown away by the moments that each other saw, how intuitively and fluidly we worked together, and how much we enjoyed it. We combined our businesses in 2006 to form David Lynn Photography, and we haven't photographed a wedding apart since then. How did you learn your craft? David - Cameras were always around in my family growing up, so I was probably learning my craft from a very early age. More recently, when I moved to Colorado, I began as a nature & landscape photographer, and then I worked in a portrait studio learning lighting and the technical aspects of photography. I've also developed my photojournalistic style from Lynn's influence. Lynn - I fell in love with photography in high school and got my degree in photojournalism in college. After working as a journalist for newspapers and magazines, I realized that I wanted to interact more with the people I was photographing and be free to express my creativity in another way. After meeting Dave, he encouraged and supported me to start my own business, and I learned so much about portraiture and lighting from him. Our styles have really meshed, and we now have a beautiful blend of photojournalism and creative portraiture. Describe you photography style and approach to weddings. We have a photojournalistic approach and work very non-intrusively so that our couples can be present on their wedding day and really live it to the fullest, without even noticing that we're around. We strive to capture the incredible emotions, details & moments that unfold throughout their day. What or who inspires you? David - I'm inspired by Lynn (of course!), and definitely Colorado. The mountains are what inspired me to become a photographer, and we absolutely love that we get to photograph all over this gorgeous state for our careers. I'd never want to live and work anywhere else. Lynn - Definitely my husband! I am also truly inspired by our couples who let us into their lives and trust us to capture the most meaningful day of their lives. Since we now have children, it's not uncommon to see my eyes well with tears during the father/daughter and mother/son dance, too. The love is so strong on this one day, and we feel so grateful to capture it! Combine all of that with a perfect blue-sky Colorado day and gorgeous light, and I'm in heaven. Any awards or features/publications? Awards: The Knot Best of Weddings, Denver A-List Top 10. Magazine Features: Travel & Leisure, The Knot, Wed, Luxe Mountain Weddings, and more. Blog Features: Couture Colorado, Style Me Pretty, Rocky Mountain Bride, Wedding Wire, Luxe Mountain Weddings (Blog), Far Far and Away, Paper Moon Weddings, Colorado Weddings Magazine (blog), and more. Favorite Wedding location. We love mountain locations, and there are so many beautiful ones in Colorado! We also love small, intimate backyard weddings, because it offers such a genuine feel and really focuses on the purpose of why everyone is gathered to celebrate. If we had to choose one, we would settle on Devil's Thumb Ranch Resort & Spa. We spent part of our honeymoon there, so it has sentimental meaning for us, but we are always amazed at how perfectly they balance a rustic/mountain look with a very high-end experience. Whenever we're there, we never want to leave. Favorite Wedding Trend. The Unplugged Wedding. Guests turn their phones and devices off to allow them to be fully present for the couple during the ceremony. We believe that this is important to do once in a while, no matter where you are! As photographers, it eliminates any inadvertent interference with us performing our job the best we can. Love it! Advice for a couple planning a Colorado Wedding. As much as possible, stay flexible and focus on the true meaning of your wedding. With so many couples choosing outdoor weddings & receptions, it's important to be accepting of those unforeseen circumstances that may arise (like rain)! The wedding day will unfold beautifully if allowed to do so, and it will be truly yours. Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Colorado? David grew up in Maryland and moved to Colorado 20 years ago to live near the mountains. Lynn is a Colorado native, and can't imagine living anywhere else! Here are just a few of their favorite photographs. Go to www.davidlynnphoto.com see more.
