I am a jewelry designer and maker, with a small team of ladies making every geometric jewel and custom order by hand. I love functionality, everyday design and simplicity, these are also the values I infuse in my jewelry. When and why did you start your business? After a lot of exploration in school and the world, I asked myself, what do I want to do everyday? I ended up getting a BFA with a concentration in Glass and Metal. For the past five years I have been working at my families restaurant, for a wedding flower business, a caterer, and for a high-end jeweler. All the while making my own work and experimenting with designs and ways to get it out to the people. How did you learn your craft? When I finally went to art school I ended up in the Craft/Material Studies area. Glass and Metal were the only materials that I had absolutely no experience with and I was naturally drawn to take some classes. I love the intensity and playfulness of hot glass, and the meticulous detail of jewelry. The amazing thing with metal is that you can do so many different things with a small amount of tools, and although I still blow glass from time to time, metal has been the material that has stuck with me. Plus, of course, jewelry is wearable, and you cannot get much better than that. Describe your design aesthetic. I am above all interested in functionality, I have a very effortless style most days, I sleep in necklaces and rings and wear my watch everyday. However I love to dress up and go out on the weekends or when I have a little extra time. I make my pieces easy to layer, or I make verious size versions. I love everyday objects with extraordinary design. I want to be glad something is there. This translates into being a lot of little details in the jewerly, be it a tiny heart at the end of a chain, a hexagon to make the necklace asymmetric or a design on the inside of a ring. What or who inspires you? I am inspired most by energy, my favorite thing is to be around excited people with ideas and goals. I also love to travel and explore, I've been all over the world, but at this time in my life I want to be healthy and productive. My greatest art inspiration is Charles and Ray Eames, I hope to one day have a workshop full of materials and wonders of all kinds. And they reinvented the chair, now thats amazing. What is your favorite trend right now? I love geometric prints and shapes of course, as well as airy light shirts, and layers. What designer do you look up to? Im really loving Issey Miyake right now. Where did you grow up? I grew up in the Park Hill neighborhood of Denver. A little closer to MLK blvd than Montview. I absolutely loved it there, I went to PS 1 a experimental charter school downtown for middle school, and East for high school I love every corner of Denver, each space has a memory attached. I have since lived on the west coast and more recently in the east. But my dad has since moved to west Denver and Im scheming ways to come home.
