Q&A with the Bride and Groom:
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
We adore the mountains. Being from flat West Texas, we vacation in Colorado every chance we get. We knew we wanted a simple wedding with the stunning mountain views as the focal point. We didn't have specific colors, but navy blue and peach seemed to shine through in much of the decor.
Let's talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
We did a lot of the decorations ourselves. After pouring over Pinterest for months on end, we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted. We purchased things for the decor slowly over the time leading up to the wedding, and everything came together beautifully. The groom's cousin made our cake, and I drew a tree for guests to sign as a unique spin on the usual guestbook.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
The flowers were nothing short of stunning. Huge dahlias, snapdragons, frosty green eucalyptus and sea holly were draped everywhere. We used some large blooms in the terrariums for dinner table centerpieces. We also had tiny arrangements for each guest in little tin containers with name cards. There was a bouquet of daisies (my late mother's favorite flower) on the memory table to honor those who couldn't be there with us. The arrangements were breathtaking!
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
Music is very important to us. We spent almost a year creating the perfect playlists. We made sure that our personality showed through in all the details, from the cocktails to the blankets to keep guests warm.
Let's talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
I was inspired by browsing online. I knew I wanted something romantic, ivory, and unique. I couldn't be more pleased with my dress. I felt like a forest princess! The peach-colored shawl was perfect to warm up my shoulders when the sun went down. Les designed his own suit stitch-by-stitch, right down to the lining. He had our wedding date embroidered on the inside of the jacket. It was a really cool experience!
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
We met through mutual friends at a party about eight years ago. The proposal still blows me away. He surprised me with a trip to Seattle. When we got there, another surprise was waiting: my best friends! Then, he surprised me with a three-day pass to see our favorite band, The Dave Matthews Band, at The Gorge. The first night, Dave Matthew played our song, and Les proposed. I had no idea. I still can't believe he pulled that off. I am VERY hard to surprise!
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you'd like to share with other couples planning their day?
Create a timeline, as the date sneaks up on you! Ask for help when you need it, but don't be afraid to stand your ground when it comes to the details that are important to you.
