Q&A with the bride and groom, Wilks and Hannah:
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
Our wedding was super simple. We aren’t big into tradition and felt our wedding was more about the two of us instead of for an audience. We love the outdoors and nature in general, so wanted to elope on a mountain in Colorado. We got married on April 22nd because it was Earth Day and felt it represented our love and our love for nature perfectly. We wanted to have a date that meant something to us and gave us a bigger thing to celebrate than just getting married. Our Australian shepherd puppy was included in the elopement too!
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
They were natural and simple. They went with the style that i was going for and fit our personality and earth day theme perfectly.
Let's talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
I wanted something floral for my look because i didn’t want a traditional white dress and wanted it to symbolize Earth Day. I didn’t know exactly what i was looking for or what color, but when i found my dress i knew it was the one! We just let the universe play a big role in everything, so when i saw the dress, i knew purple was our color scheme!
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
We grew up in a small town and always knew each other. We had english class together when my husband was a Senior and I was a junior in high school. We came to realize we had the same sense of humor and clicked so well. We started dating and continued ever since. My husband enlisted in the Air Force when he got out of high school, so we had a long distance relationship for a couple of years. He came home to visit for New Years (my birthday) one year and proposed to me in front of his house that New Years night to bring in the New Year. We got married a little over a year later.
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you'd like to share with other couples planning their day?
Always follow your heart on what you want for your big day. In the end it’s what makes the both of you happy and no one else.
