Notes from the bride, MacKenzie:
How did you meet?
Luke and I met randomly through a mutual friend, Libby, who was one of my bridesmaids. She and Luke went to college together and they were catching up and she asked Luke what his type was in a girl. He looked around and pointed at me and said, Her. She is exactly my type. To Libby recognized me even though we had not seen each other for several years and they quickly rushed over and introduced Luke and the rest is history!
How did you get engaged?
We got engaged in Estes Park, Colorado just about 2 years later. I thought I was going to the famous Stanley Hotel for a meeting for work, when to my surprise my meeting was cancelled and the spa was offering me a free manicure. How could I turn that down? As soon as she finished my nails she handed me a note from Luke asking me to take a ride with him, and that it could be a long one. I quickly realized that Luke was there waiting for me. We hopped in the car and took a 15 minute ride up into the National Park and went to the Sprague Lake, where he and I first spent time together. We walked around the lake which seemed to take years to get to the point where Luke got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of our lives together.
Any wedding DIY projects?
Our table settings were DIY. I finally found a use for all of our wine bottles that I had stored up. I used a glass cutter to cut over 100 wine bottles that held the flowers on each table. Each table had a variety (type) of wine that would let guests know where to sit instead of table numbers. For example, we had a Merlot table, where the bottles that were cut and holding the flowers, were all Merlot wine bottles. We also scattered wine corks throughout the tables, as well as shorter cut wine bottles to hold classic white candles.
What is your favorite part of the wedding?
It is so hard to pick my favorite part of the wedding! One memory that means a lot to me was the Bagpipes that played at night and for our send off. I come from a Scottish background and the only thing that I JUST HAD TO HAVE at my wedding was bagpipes. So another firefighter that Luke works with who plays the bagpipes for the Fire Dept. came and played "Amazing Grace" and several other classics.
What was your first dance song?
