Notes from the Bride, Emily:
Matt and I met right after college and knew within 2 weeks after we started dating that this was something special. We couldnt get enough of each other and became best friends and soul mates all at the same time. Fast forward 4 years to a weekend getaway to Seattle and we found ourselves snuggling on a log, looking out at the ocean in little cove at Discovery Park where he asked me if I wanted to do this forever and got down on one knee. I was shocked, on cloud 9 and instantly said YES!
Being a wedding planner, I couldnt wait to plan our wedding. I had already been collecting all sorts of inspirations from prior weddings and started Pinterest boards of different ideas that I had too. The overall inspiration for our wedding was a modern style with a lot of sophisticated but fun details. Which is pretty much us in a nut shell! : ) I also love all things black and white and made those the star of our color palette while adding in a pretty and modern peacock teal into the mix to make things pop a little. The three of them together were definitely fantastic.
The floral details of the wedding are what we really wanted to wow our guests with. Design Works really took our vision and made it come to life. The florals from the ceremony to the reception were jaw dropping. I wanted to get married in spring because I am in love with blossoming trees. We were able to make our own little blossoming tree forest down the aisle of our ceremony right in the heart of the Denver Performing Arts Center. It was amazing and unforgettable to say I do under as well. The guests were then greeted at the cocktail hour with a blossoming tree adorned with hanging escort cards for them to take and find their seat.
I am also completely smitten with orchids and that was one thing we definitely made sure there were lots of details of as well From my cascading orchid bouquet, to my handmade orchid leaches for our dogs to walk down the aisle with (being the ring bearer and flower girl of course : ) ) to the suspended hanging orchid floral arrangement over the head table (which was literally breath taking) to the 4 different tall to short floral arrangements on the guests tables, our wedding was filled with orchid goodness.
Everything was personalized at our wedding too and we didnt stick to traditional at all. We wanted us to shine through as much as possible. I broke the mold and had a man of honor, brought in our pups to be the flower girl and ring bearer because we couldnt imagine saying I do without them there and also walked down the aisle with my Mom and Dad. We also wrote our own vows and had a unity tree instead of a candle where we our parents each watered the tree and then we did as well and plan on planting it at our first house and continue to love and nurture it and watch it grow as our love grows.
I let my girls choose what black dress best fit them and each one had different one and Matt and his guys were all decked out in their favorite video game characters from their socks to their cuff links because video games is something he loves and we wanted to include that as one of his personal touches. He even walked down the aisle to the Zelda theme song!
We also had a completely custom menu with a sort of choose your own adventure vibe with different meat stations and different sauces to choose from and mixed that with a build your own mashed potato bar and a build your own green bean bar with different sauces to choose from too. The food was phenomenal. We also arent big cake fans and choose instead to have a dessert bar filled with all sorts of goodies to choose from with a small cake to cut and enjoy for those cake fans out there too.
Its hard to choose our favorite moment because the whole day was just amazing. It really was the best day ever! From getting ready with your best friends, to seeing each other for the first time at first looks, to crying happy tears during our vows, the first kiss and being announced at Mr. & Mrs. Miller for the first time, to smearing cake in Matts face when we cut the cake, to our first dance, dancing our butts off into the night and just celebrating with family. It is really what it was all about, celebrating our love and doing that with everyone close to us. There were so many unforgettable memories, it was really just a dream. Everything just turned our perfectly.
One piece of advice I would give to future brides & grooms is just enjoy the day. Whatever happens is going to happen, but dont let that get in the way of the true meaning of why you are there in the first place, getting married! There is no other time and place where all of your friends and family get together to celebrate the two and your love and that is what is really special about that day. Dont sweat the small stuff and just cherish every minute. You only get 1 day and a few short hours that go by in a blink of an eye, so live it up and enjoy it for all of its worth!
