Q & A with founder, Brita Brown: When and why did you start your business? I love weddings, and after having children I realized the very difficult balance of being an active wedding guest/bridesmaid, and mother at the same time. I felt like a nagging mom that was constantly asking my kids to shush or sit quietly, that weddings stopped being fun. All my focus was on my children, making sure they werent running wild, I sometimes found myself forgetting the real reason we were there, to show support to the Bride and Groom. The Nanny Brigade was founded and created out of my determination to construct an atmosphere that is exciting for children while also providing the parent and bride with a confident, professional solution! The Nanny Brigade launched in 2013, and I am very excited to see where it takes us in 2014 and beyond. I love my job, being able to engage with a variety of people, professionals and children on a daily basis make me so happy that I get to work in this field. This company is a true passion of mine and I am very excited to watch everything I have been planning over the years become a reality! When did you know this is what you wanted to do? I had left a friends wedding early, again and during the drive home I was a little bummed that we missed the first dance and all the exciting wedding festivities to follow. I started thinking of how weddings could really be parent/kid friendly. I worked in the event industry for many years and love working with children in the field of education. By combining my two worlds, both of which I am very passionate about, I knew I could create a quality service that there is a real need for, a service for parents, event hosts and children. Describe how your business works and your approach to weddings and families. We work with brides to create a package that works for their Big Day. Once our services are booked, we offer information inserts for brides to include in their invitations. These are inviting guests to come online, check us out, ask questions and even RSVP to the event. We stay in open communication with the event host and wedding venue to make sure we are all on the same page for the event. On the Big Day, we transform the space the venue is allowing us to use, into an exciting, engaging, safe space for your youngest guests. We are a service for families and weddings, our services help out both parties. We know how much fun children can be, but we also understand that sometimes their energy can be too much for certain weddings. We welcome parents in our space anytime throughout the event, and have an open communication policy that will notify parents if your child needs anything. Safety is our number one priority and all of our staff is background checked, CPR, first aid certified. Children will never be released to anyone other than the parent that dropped them off. What or who inspires you? My husband and kids are my largest inspiration. They are constant reminders to work hard, play hard, and just enjoy all the great moments we share on a day to day basis. Our family of four makes me want to be the very best I can be, every day. My mom, because I couldnt imagine handling any of the motherhood excitement and chaos without the solid foundation she has provided me with, and continues to share with my children. Travelling, it is a true blessing to be able to see this world, and by making it a priority I know the value it adds to my life, and the life I am providing for my children. Going out and experiencing life in different cultures is such a gift! Favorite Wedding location This is a tough question! Lets just say I love weddings that offer a gorgeous outdoor space for the ceremony, and a nice large open reception hall. The location is SO important, but the backdrop for the big day is a very personal choice and is different for everyone! In the gorgeous state of Colorado there are WAY too many great options! Favorite activity at a wedding? I love all the dancing, and am such a sucker for the first dance, and father/daughter dance. Tears every time. I also get very excited to see all the decorations, thanks to Pinterest weddings have gotten so creative and I LOVE seeing it all! Advice for a couple planning a Colorado Wedding. This is a state your out of state guests will really enjoy travelling to, make sure you come up with a variety of ideas/activities to help them stay busy outside of the wedding commitments. Advice for a family planning to attend a Colorado Wedding. GOOGLE, there is so much to do and see here, make a list of the fun you want to have outside of the wedding. Colorado is so great for a family vacation, even offering you almost a destination wedding type atmosphere. Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Colorado? I feel lucky to have grown up in a variety of states but Northwestern Montana was my favorite. Being in the mountains and having so much activity, every season, at your fingertips provided an awesome childhood. Skiing in the winter, summers on the lake. My husband and I started looking in to Colorado a couple years ago, and fell in love with it after a few visits. It reminds me a lot of NW Montana, and we knew this was a lifestyle we wanted to share with our children!
