Notes from the Bride & Groom, Angie & Adam: We wanted a rustic mountain-themed wedding with elegance. Our focus was to create a fun, relaxed, and inviting atmosphere that guests could enjoy. One that would create the opportunity for these fabulous people - some of whom were from different walks of life and didn't know each other - to meet and intermingle without forcing it to happen. We had a number of yard games that we borrowed to help create a mechanism for that: I loved watching my guests enjoying playing the games - corn hole, giant "Jenga", ladder golf, and frisbeer. We also wanted our guests to feel really special and welcome - for our party favors, Adam and I went to some of our favorite sights around Denver and we posed for pictures holding a message to each guest with something like, "Thank you for celebrating with us." So many of our guests shared about how much they loved that special touch. We planned Folk music for the arrival of guest to the ceremony, and Lounge music for the cocktail hour. Our first dance was The Sea of Love by The Honey Drippers. Adam picked it out, and I loved it - it's such a fun song and it fit our personalities. Inspiration & Theme: My themes were Colorado, mountain, rustic, old west, mining, and wildflowers. I knew we wanted to use John Fielder's Colorado 1870-2000 as our guestbook - it's a wonderful leather-bound coffee table book of "then and now" photograph's of Colorado's landscapes. My friend helped me center in on that as the representation of my wedding theme, which helped everything else fall into place. One favorite memory: It was a rainy daysomething you hope not to have with an outdoor wedding in the mountains. However, the rain stopped at the perfect times. The sun came out minutes before the ceremony. It started up again right after we finished with photos of the wedding party and families. It stopped rainy once again right before dinner and was finished for the rest of the night. Advice for other brides: Get centered in on your vision. I started out by browsing wedding websites and books. There are all kinds of fun ideas out there, but it can also get overwhelming and you can't possibly incorporate every idea. It's important to get narrowed in and have a centralized theme that part of your wedding builds toward. My other piece of advice is with regards to budget - We wanted to keep our wedding on a reasonable budget. Adam and I talked about what was most important to us, and then we allocated our money accordingly.
