Gosh, I love breaking rules. There are too many to begin with! Plus, there's something exciting and dangerous that comes from knowing you are intentionally saying hell no to a rule, especially when that involves fashion. I began making a list of fashion rules that need to be broken and realized just how many there are out there. Its ridiculous! You want one hard, fast rule of fashion?! Be confident. Oh, and dont wear white to a wedding.

fashion rules to break 1

1. Mixing Brown & Black: I love this look. Why these two have been separated for so long is unknown to me. Many shades of brown can accent a black item and give it a fresh new look that you wouldnt have anticipated. 2. Pink & Red: Another friendly combo that seemed almost too close to combo. The two actually look great together often creating a color block look. 3. Pattern Mixing: This rule has been breaking all season in a big way. So much so that t is actually a trend its self. I love mixing patterns. The key is to make sure they look good together. Sounds simple, but really if your just tossing random prints together, you may look like the reason for this rule. But if you key in to patterns that compliment each other, you pull of a unique, covetable outfit! 4. Overalls: Overalls are back in a very wearable way. I am a huge fan of a funky overall look and think it can be worn in many versatile ways. Want to go camping? Grab a henley and overalls. Thinking of going bold on your next girls night out? Add heels, a silk blouse and a blazer! 5. Matching Shoes & Belt: Accessories need to sync up to some degree, but that does not mean that the old adage of your shoes & belt matching is the only way to do that. Get creative. 6. Denim on Denim: I think Madewell has taught us all that denim combos can create an uber chic, parisian look. I love pairing a super light distressed skinny with a darker chambray button up and statement necklace. Easy and stylish. 7. Sequins in the Day: In all honesty, beautifully done sequins are an absolute favorite of mine. What better way to add a bit of glam to the day job! 8. Minis in Maxis: Being about 5ft flat, I break this rule constantly. A well worn maxi gives the magical illusion of height! As with any outfit, just make sure the fit is right for you and you are in the clear. 9. White after Labor Day: How can you say that an all white snow bunny ares-ski outfit trimmed with fur isnt in style poor to labor day? Exactly. 10. Cropped: Theres an old saying; if youve got it- flaunt it. I dont think you need to go overboard on that, but subtle ways are available that accentuate your favorite features in a playful & sexy way. How cute is this cropped outfit?! {Image Credit to others who have also pondered this "fashion rule" conundrum: Style Print, Buzz Feed, Style Caster}
