Notes from the wedding planner, Gabby Greenleaf:
Mary and Graham got married at the stunning Planet Bluegrass venue in Lyons, Colorado on what might have possibly been the prettiest day of the year. Big blue skies, warm sun and light breezes surrounded by the massive red rock formations known throughout Colorado state. The rushing St. Vrain River ran behind the ceremony spot (specifically chosen for its beauty) and under a simple wood arch with dip-dyed frayed ribbons, the couple was pronounced man-and-wife.
A riotous cocktail hour ensued where the bride insisted on delivering cheese curds to her guests ("squeaky cheese", as she refers to them) and a football rivalry of Wisconsin Badgers vs Miami Redhawks (the game being closely followed on everyone's smartphones). As avid sports fans, Mary and Graham even sent an invitation to Peyton Manning (sadly, no reply).
The huge pavilion where the reception was held opened its large doors to the song "Mary's Place" by Bruce Springsteen and guests danced joyfully as they found their seats among the huge farm tables. The couple wanted a family-friendly atmosphere, and those details came to life in every small detail; from the hand-tied lavender bundles picked and dried by the brides mom, Jana. To the family-style food service with large platters and requests for "pass the pasta!" To the vintage blue glass jars sourced from multiple flea-markets and garage sales by family and friends for months. To the curated selection of desserts including an apple pie (Mary's favorite), a chocolate chip cookie (father-of-the-bride Mike's favorite) to mini strawberry shortcakes (Graham's favorite). And lastly, to the five-foot 3D bear ice-sculpture/luge custom made for the bride by her friends (Mary is bear-y into bears)!
Guests dined and danced under a custom iron marquee sign of the couple's initials, and finished off the night with an extensive dessert bar, passed mini bison burgers, and hot coffee for the road.
